Using the wrong Ink/pigment for SMP

Updated: Apr 18, 2023

Scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a procedure that requires the use of the right equipment and materials to get the best results. One of the most important materials used in SMP is the ink or pigment. If the wrong ink is used, it may not have an immediate consequence on the outcome of the procedure, but over time, the consequences may become apparent.

Most hair tattoo inks are composed of a few different colors. If such inks are used for your SMP procedure, it can cause discoloration over time. Once your immune system and the sun start having an effect on the ink used for your SMP procedure, if the ink is of inferior quality, it will start to break down, resulting in color change or color separation. This is not something you want to see happening on your scalp.

To avoid this, it is essential to use the correct SMP ink/pigment, which should be made up of pure black pigment only. The ink should not be composed of different colors, as this may cause problems in the future. Hence, the color/ink won’t break down over time, giving you the desired results that last.

As a client, it is important to be sure that your SMP practitioner/artist is using good quality SMP inks for your procedure. Using the wrong ink/pigment can lead to a variety of problems, from color change to discoloration, and even migration. This is why it is important to research your practitioner and ensure they use high-quality inks and have a track record of successful SMP procedures.

Remember, the key to achieving the best SMP results is using the right materials, including high-quality SMP inks. So, be sure to choose a practitioner/artist who has the right experience and equipment to provide you with the best possible SMP experience.
